Information
The Kiniras Hotel and Tavern is a family-owned traditional house in the heart of Paphos, Cyprus.
Kiniras is a 15th century Venetian building, which was first converted into a hotel in 1924, completely renovated in 1995, it is perhaps the most traditional of Paphos hotels, still maintaining its original character and uniqueness as a listed building.
The hotel is popular with guests from all across Europe and is in high demand from French, Dutch and German tourists in particular. It attracts many independent travelers who research their holiday on the internet and make informed decisions rather than be lead by the large tour operators.
A dedication to Cypriot hospitality, and friendly welcome is second nature to the multilingual members of staff and the Gregoriou family themselves have throughout the generations all studied and learnt their trade in Germany & Switzerland giving a professional sheen to their natural family hospitality.

I can honestly say that this was my worst hotel experience since progressing beyond backpacking days; certainly, in the last 40 years or so. Being charitable, possibly for a novelist looking for down-and-out colour, or a youngster wanting a grungy and ‘real’ relatively low-cost experience this might be OK. But not for older professionals looking for a peaceful civilised break. I chose this hotel because it was recommended in the Rough Guide book, which described it as ‘boutique’. Last year we had a wonderful holiday in Rhodes Old Town in a boutique hotel, and I wanted to recreate this. Cost was not really an issue that motivated the choice (in fact it is put down as relatively pricey in the Rough Guide, which, of course it isn’t). My main mistake was not looking very hard at the reviews. Our experience was pretty much in line with the most negative reviews: weirdly eccentric and rather rude manager, terrible breakfast, terrible location. We lasted just one night, having booked seven. Of course, as might be expected, we were refused any refund. Unlike the old town of Rhodes there is nothing much in old Paphos. Most of anything ‘old’ has been ripped out and replaced by modern high street shops - fine for locals, but nothing really for tourists. The Kiniras is located in a busy modern high street close to a nightclub. We arrived on Saturday night and were put in a tiny room on the high street. The noise from the nightclub (catering for locals I think) blared through the closed window (louder than I play music at home) until after 3 in the morning. After a terrible night we went down to breakfast, which, as another reviewer has said, was almost inedible, with a clientele that seemed from an art-house film. At that point I made one of the better decisions in recent years and, using Google Maps, found a fantastic, modern, apartment/hotel set around swimming pools. We never thought we would go for such a place, but it was absolutely great - very quiet, with competent friendly staff. The total opposite of the Kiniras. And for only about 20 Euros per night more.

Beautiful hotel in a great location, it is in the middle of the center and close to all key points such as bus stops. Owner of the hotel is very friendly and welcoming, facilitated an extra night very last minute without problems and let me leave my luggage in the hotel during a day trip after check out. Overall great experience, highly recommend anyone in Paphos to stay at this place.

An amazing dining experience at the restaurant. Beautiful courtyard and wonderful staff! Not to mention the dishes themselves which were mouthwatering. A heartwarming moment overall.

The location is good because the street is busy and has many shops and restaurants. The parking situation is not good though. The hotel grounds and rooms are outdated but mostly clean. The wifi is our room was basically non existent and there was no control over the air conditioning (just an on/off switch)

Location
The hotel is situated in Makarios Avenue only a couple of minutes away from the old town market and a short bus ride away from Paphos harbor with its Venetian fort and the UNESCO sites of ancient Paphos.
The Kiniras hotel has become known over the last few years as a landmark, meeting place and a favored venue for eating out in Paphos. The architecture of the building gives an irreplaceable expression of the wealth and variety of its cultural background and this is complimented by the artwork that adorns the walls from its owner, George Gregoriou.
