History & Attractions
The region of Polis Chrysochous, 20 minutes from Lasa Heights, has many archaeological sites. It has a rich cultural heritage dating back over 9,000 years. In this area they started mining copper already in the fourth millennium B.C. The mining ceased many years ago and it is now planned to turn the abandoned site into a golf course and tourist accommodation. The jetty from where the copper ore was shipped out is still in place, although recently renovated.
Drive to the pretty little port of Pomos, along some beautiful coastal roads and you can go all the way to the end of the area of the Republic of Cyprus and visit the small 16th century church dedicated to the Virgin Mary of Chrysopateritissa, one of the least known churches in Cyprus. In Pomos you can also visit Saint Rafael, one of the most well known churches in Cyprus.
Driving past Latchi will bring you to the Akamas peninsula and the bath of Aphrodite. In this natural spring the Goddess is said to have taken her ablutions. From here starts a nature trail that will lead you along the edge of the Mediterranean to a cove with the pretty sounding name of Fontana Amorosa. The water here is crystal clear.
25 minutes drive South of Lasa Heights will take you to the historical town of Paphos. Visit the mosaics and the harbour with its old fort. You can take the scenic route to Paphos via the wine villages in the Kathikas area, visit the wineries for some tasting before continuing down to the golden beach of Coral Bay, which is perfect for sunbathing and swimming.
Restaurants
There are many restaurants and tavernas in the region. Some have a theme, like the Old Water Mill about 10 minutes from here with its adjacent water mill museum. The local village tavernas in Fyti are a very good option for local cuisine and just 5 minutes drive from the hotel. Our friendly staff will be only too happy to help you chose from the many options available.
