I am originally from Romania, having moved to Cyprus at an early age and I have basically grown up here. I would not trade Cyprus for anywhere else; it is uniquely beautiful in both the culture as well as the friendly people living here.
One of my favourite places on the whole island is the Platania area in the Troodos mountains. This is a fantastic place to go with friends and just relax, barbeque and enjoy the fresh mouintain air. It has the added bonus of being extremely cool in the summer months, so if you find the rest of the island too hot, you can head to the mountains for some much needed relief.
