Troodos - Snowed Under
If you feel like having a go on the slopes, then slip-slide your way to the Cyprus Ski Club which operates the four lifts at Mount Olympus. You wouldn’t think such a small, concentrated area of snow could offer these kinds of facilities, but there are even eight alpine ski runs; what’s more, we even have a Cyprus Ski Federation, whose athletes have competed in various international tournaments, including the winter Olympics.
There is also a ski club in Limassol as well as in Nicosia for those skiiking enthusiasts who might hanker for a bit of downhill action.
For those who don’t quite have their ski legs, the Club offers classes for any level of skier, whether you’re slightly rusty or totally inexperienced. The best part of the skiing experience though is the cafeteria at the bottom of the slopes, which makes a great hot chocolate.
And if you’re worried about not having the right equipment, the ski shop, which is run and operated by trained technicians of the Cyprus Ski Club, offers the appropriate equipment and advice.
Of course, for those of you who are not quite thrilled at hurling yourself down a mountain slope on two planks, dodging trees and trying not to fall over, you cal also just get a piece of plastic or cardboard and slide down a little slope. Even better, grab some waterproof gloves and spend a fun-filled day building snowmen and having snowfights with your friends and family.
