Limassol Village Life
One of the great things about Cyprus is that the old and the very new live quite harmoniously side by side. Limassol is a perfect example of this; from a sprawling city with the latest trends, fashions and restaurants offering any kind of cuisine you could possibly crave, to a host of surrounding villages still living and working to an older way of life.
Perhaps one of the prettiest villages, Omodhos is a standing monument to days of old. Home to the oldest wine press in Cyprus, you’ll find cobbled, narrow and winding roads dotted with pretty little shops offering traditional wares. While you’re sipping your Greek Coffee at one of the little “kafeneios” (coffee shops), close your eyes and enjoy the peace and quiet of Cyprus-past.
If you’re feeling artistic and want some inspiration, take a drive to Lania which seems to have become quite the artists’ habitat. Two artists – Michael Owen and Pat Thompson - have taken up residence there and you can visit their studio/galleries as well as a little mosaics store.
For a real taste of the village life though, stop off at Foini Village, which is just so pretty and well preserved. Not only will you see pottery and furniture, you’ll also be able to try traditional sweets and even visit the Trooditissa Monastery.
