Limassol for Families
As an ideal place for a family holiday, Limassol offers lots to do and see. For some serious junior retail therapy, the mind-boggling Jumbo children’s store is like Santa’s warehouse; just make sure you bring an empty suitcase or three to take back all the cool stuff your children will want.
If you want to spend a fun-filled, sun-drenched family day out, then you should really take your kids to the Fasouri Watermania Waterpark. Spread out over fourteen acres, it is the biggest in Cyprus, with thirty different slides for all ages, including a new ride called “the Black Hole.” Kids can also enjoy the beach volleyball court and football pitch, while you can sit back and relax at one of the two restaurants or three snack bars.
When it comes to giving your child a happy memory from your holiday in Limassol, there really is only one place to go - The Bear Factory. This is an amazing place which allows your children (and you…) to choose their own teddy bear, made from scratch. You start with the skin you want, choose the stuffing, then a heart – which you kiss and name; then you watch the bear being stitched up. There are even recording devices which allow you to record your own message. And as a final touch, your child’s new teddy comes complete with a birth certificate in its own carry box.
For something a little less cuddly, try the Reptile House which is home to quite a few reptiles both indigenous to Cyprus and from the rest of the world. You’ll see iguanas, rattlesnakes and even huge boas. If there’s anyone a little squeamish in your family, don’t go at dinner time, as that’s when the snakes are fed their daily meal of live mice.
Guaranteed to be a little more calming and educational, the Natural Sea Sponge Exhibition shows how sea sponges are harvested and produced. You can also see how the sponges are treated, as well as how loofahs are made from a locally grown vegetable.
If your kids like animals, then you should take them to the Vouni Donkey Sanctuary, which while acting as an animal charity, allows kids to get to know the hardworking donkey; you can even go on donkey rides through the Vouni countryside.
