Limassol For Singles
If there’s one thing you need to know about Limassol, is that is has a very well-deserved reputation island wide as the party capital of Cyprus. Whether it’s the wine festival, the carnival with its street parties or the sheer abandon of locals as they have a good time, you’re always guaranteed to have a good time.
The most obvious place is an area called Galatex, which is where you’ll find most of the bars and clubs which are primarily aimed at the tourist market. If you like something a little more upmarket, try Chesters, which is opposite the Elias Beach Hotel on Amathus Road. Great food, laid back atmosphere and good service. If you like sports, you could probably spend most your days and nights here too as they show almost all kinds of sports.
If you really want to get into the local scene though, you should try “Bouzoukia.” This is a very Greek way of enjoying an evening, with lots of Greek dancing, singing and drinking. The two places to visit in Limassol are Notes Studio or Rogmes. Basically you get a group of people together, go to one of these places (only after 11pm though), sit at a table and enjoy the show. Live Greek singers perform on stage and people can dance and sing along to their hearts content. Fueled by the bottles of alcohol and mixers on the table, this is the best place to see how passionate Greeks really are.
Of course you’ll need to recover from the night’s indulgences and one of the best ways of doing this is on a day cruise. There are a few companies which operate out of the Limassol harbour and most of them will arrange transport to and from your hotel. Imagine spending a few hours lying on the deck of a yacht or catamaran, then dropping anchor, going for a swim or snorkel in crystal clear waters, enjoying a tasty fresh meal, followed by a lovely cold drink then sailing back to shore. You can even choose what kind of cruise you want – there are full day, half day, afternoon and even evening cruises available.
Limassol also has quite a reputation as a shopper’s paradise, with the main shops being on Makariou and Anexartisias Streets. Women should try out a shop called Oh La La, which stocks fabulous faux bijoux, silver jewellery and all sorts of stunning accessories, all imported from Greece. Definitely the best “girly” shop.
For the guys who like gadgets and all sorts of “cool stuff” check out Gifts & Gadgets, full of toys for boys like lava lamps and can-shaped beer coolers.
For those wanting something with a bit more zing though, try some of the sex shops. The two best ones are Body Sex and Sex Gallery; the first one has the usual stuff, while Sex Gallery has all sorts of paraphernalia to really give your holiday that bit of extra zing…
