Paphos For Families
One of the main attractions of Paphos is that it is a haven for families, probably because the Cypriot people are very family orientated and most of their focus is always on their children. This is perhaps why you will see that most of the restaurants here are family-centred, with children’s menus; some even have playgrounds. In terms of excursions and things to do, there are many places you can take your kids to give them a fun day out.
The most obvious place to treat your kids is naturally the beach, with lots of sand for castles and digging. The sea in Cyprus is known for its calmness and with the exception of a stretch or two, the waves are minimal; in fact the sea is sometimes referred to here as a big, warm swimming pool!
But if you want to have a fun day out, there are a few places where you can spend the day together as a family having fun in a safe environment.
Splash No visit to Paphos with children would be complete without a day or two spent at the Aphrodite Waterpark. Recently voted eighth best in Europe, this waterpark, which is just outside of Paphos is very popular with both locals and tourists who usually set aside an entire day as there is so much fun to be had. The water rides and games are first class and the park offers kiosks, restaurants, first aid and disabled facilities while the resident DJ keeps everyone in the mood. The Aphrodite Waterpark runs from May to October.
Something Fishy While not the biggest aquarium in the world, the Paphos Aquarium offers a lovely place for children to admire a rather impressive array of colourful fish from the oceans, seas and rivers of the world. It even provides a unique underwater setting of illuminated caves.
Bowled Away For small town, we are lucky enough to have two bowling alleys in Paphos. Both are excellent and provide all the accessories you may need.
Birdie, Birdie The Paphos Bird and Animal Park covers 100,000 square metres in the St. George area and is truly inspirational with its main focus on birds, with a small section showing a few animals and snakes as well. It contains 170 different species of birds, from small finches to majestic eagles. Try and catch the parrot shows which run twice daily; kids love these and you’ll even find yourself laughing along.
It’s in the Swing There are two mini golf courses, one in the Coral Bay area and one in Geroskipou; both of which are easily accessible. Both offer a few fun hours and is a good way to develop your kids’ golfing skills; perhaps a new Tiger Woods can be born!
