Nicosia For Couples

If there’s one thing Nicosians like doing it’s taking care of themselves, which must be why there are some fabulous day spas in the city. So when you’re a little tired of shopping or visiting museums and churches, you can take care of your own temples by spending some quality time together at one of these excellent havens.

Try the Jacques Dessange Day-Spa International for services including hairdressing, beauty, nutrition a gym and a whole range of therapies. The selling point of this spa is the Hydrotherapy Floating Therapy which is said to be a revolutionary total body relaxation therapy. The premise here is that for floating therapy to be one hundred percent effective there must be no eternal stimuli. So while you’re floating in a pool of water at your own body temperature, you’ll have no noise or light, but your treatment will be complemented by specific Chromo(Colour) and Music Therapies.

For a taste of the old Nicosia and how the Ottomans used to do it, spend a few hours at the recently restored Omerye Hamam, which offers fully functional Turkish Baths. After you’ve done your strolling through the old town and had your romantic lunch at a little taverna, go and detox your body (and your mind) in a beautifully relaxed atmosphere and picture the turbanned ones two hundred years ago doing the exact same thing. The baths are said to be highly beneficial as they boost the immune system and are excellent for those with bad circulation. You can also enjoy exfoliation treatments, a hot stone full body massage, relaxation treatments and other conventional therapies like facials. This is the cheapest and probably the most authentic way to spend a relaxing afternoon together in a truly traditional environment.

Of course if you’re in need of some retail therapy for yourself and your partner after spending a hectic day relaxing at the spa there are only two names you need to remember - Makariou and Stasikratous. These are street names and are where you’ll find all the shops you need - ranging from high street to designer boutiques and pretty much everything in between. They’re even conveniently next to each other.

If you’re up for a little exercise together and want to see a little of the city and its environs, try a cycling tour. The best thing to do is to go and visit a bicycle shop called Micromania where you can talk to the cycling-obsessed owner about the regular cycling excursions he organizes. The other thing you can do is to take slow rides through the old town to get a feeling for the place, although it’s not really recommended to cycle on the roads of Nicosia itself as they’re not really cycle-friendly.

Once you’ve done the shopping and the relaxing and the cycling, you’ll have built up an appetite. If you’re in the mood for something a little upmarket and have a taste for style, then book a table for two at Zoo. Perhaps one of the most sophisticated and undoubtedly one of the best places to eat in Nicosia, Zoo offers an amazing view from its fourth floor setting through huge glass windows of the walled part of the city. You can even work off the food at the bar and club on the third floor. This is definitely a highly recommended way to impress a partner.
